Namami Gange takes off in Vrindavan

Vrindavan 2016.07.11 (VT): The central Government aided “Namami Gange” project took off in Vrindavan today. Mr. Narayan Das Agarawal (Chancellor of GLA University), Mr. Mukesh Gautam (Chairman, Vrindavan Municipal Corporation) and Ms. Manisha Gupta (Chairwoman, Mathura Municipal Corporation) kick started the project after offering garlands at the holy Yamuna River and Thalur Bankey Bihari Ji.

On the occasion, Mr. Narayan Das Agarwal said that the efforts by the Central Government to improve the Yamuna riverfronts, providing public facilities and improving the infrastructure of the holy city are appreciated.

He said the Modi Government is also putting their efforts to develop “Moksh Dham” in Vrindavan, which had been the demand of locals since years.

The “Moksh Dham” project includes the development and renovation of Yamuna ghats as well as an electric crematorium in the city.

While addressing the crowd, Mr. Mukesh Gautam said that achhe din (“happy days”) which had been the slogan of Modi Government is now coming to Vrindavan also. The river front is being renovated and developed and the holy river is getting cleaned and free from sewer pollution and the city is getting a better and clean look, which shows that Vrindavan is high on development index. Development of the city as “Moksh Dham” is now finally on the table after a recent meeting between the Central and State governments, and the project will start soon.

During the occasion, Ms. Manisha Gupta said that beatification of 17 ghats along the Yamuna in Mathura and Vrindavan and the development of an electronic crematorium in the city is an important initiative by the Government. She said that Yamuna had been a part of Braj culture and it will make a huge difference once there is a clean river with a landscaped and beautified riverfront.

Mr. Manan from National Mission for Clean Ganga said that the objective of the Namami Gange project is to ensure the cleanliness of both the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, which are the lifeline of northern India. Mr. Pawan Singh from Engineers India Limited described the project in detail with the help of a presentation.

The manager of the programme, Mr. Devendra Sharma said that the National Ganga River Basin (NGRB) Project inaugurated its local efforts at Nimbark Junior High School, located at Vihar Ghat, at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The project includes five states viz. Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The project has 222 sub-projects, out of which 112 sub-projects are in Uttar Pradesh alone.

Swami Maheshanand Saraswati represented the sants of the city. Speaking during the occasion he appreciated the efforts by the Central and State Government and asked for a mass boycott of all those who would hinder its progress.
