Mathura 2016.09.23 (VT): Hundreds of marriage homes are amongst the polluters of Yamuna harming the sacred river at a large scale. The waste from the marriage homes is directed in the river directly through the drains.
Mathura has more than 100 marriage homes in the city. During the weddings season, atleast 100,000 people are expected to eat daily in these marriage homes, resulting in huge amount of biodegradable and non-degradable waste and polluted water. But till date Mathura Municipal Corporation and Pollution Control Board don’t have any such system to manage this amount of waste overnight.
Petitioner at National Green Tribunal (NGT) Shri Kanta Nath Chaturvedi (who is also an ex-member of Yamuna Monitoring Committee and the Chairman of Braj Conservation Association) said that all the waste from marriage homes is routed to Yamuan from the drains and administration is doing nothing about it. He said that he will file a petition against these marriage homes in NGT soon.
Yamuna Action Committee meeting soon
Pollution Control Board has said that thousands of fishes in Yamuna died on Sep 17 due to some anti-social elements. Shri Kanta Nath Chaturvedi has mocked this saying that the Pollution Control Board is trying to cover the heinous crime caused due to the chemical factories and failure of sewer treatment plants.
Shri Chaturvedi further said that a meeting on Yamuna Action Committee will be called soon in which the Nodal Officer and ADM (Revenue) Shrio Ravindra Kumar will also participate. The dates are still not fixed as the schedule from the Nodal Officer is yet to be finalised.
