Govardhan, 2017.05.21 (VT, AU): The Mahaprabhu Baithak in Govind Kund, Govardhan, was robbed on Friday night after hoodlums broke the lock of the front gate.
Heartbreakingly, the robbers kiddnapped the temple’s Laddu Gopalji, along with all His jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. They did not even leave his prasad behind.
The Anyor temple is the thirteenth baithak of Shri Vallabhacharya ji. The sevak had closed the mandir after services on Friday night without incident. The robbery was discovered the next morning, when the sevak came to awaken the Lord.
According to sevayats Krishna Kumar, Janardan Kaushik, Chaturbhuj Kaushik, Om Prakash and Chandra Prakash Sharma, the Lord’s silver dishes, jewellery, golden bracelets and 12,000 rupees in cash were stolen, along with the prasad. The incident has been reported to the local police department.
There has been a disturbing trend of deities being kidnapped (stolen) by robbers in recent years. For example, the deities of Maan Mandir in Barsana and Shri Radharamanji of Sanket Van were stolen several years ago and later recovered.
